Got an overnighted replacement bar? Take two minutes to confirm it works before you install it — and run the same test on your old bar to be sure it was really the problem. No meter needed.

The quick pressure test

  1. Connect the bar to your indicator (on the bench with just that bar plugged in, or in place before you tighten everything down).

  2. Power on and zero the indicator with no load.

  3. Apply load to the bar — press down firmly, stand on it, or set/hang a known weight. Load the top (the side marked TOP / (T)).

  4. Watch the display: a good bar makes the reading climb as you load it.

  5. Release the load — it should return to zero (within a few pounds) and hold steady, no drift.

  6. Tap test: gently tap around the bar with a rubber mallet or the wooden handle of a hammer. A good bar stays stable; a bad one jumps.

Good: climbs with load, reads positive, returns to zero and holds, steady when tapped. Bad: drifts on its own, won’t return to zero, jumps when tapped, reads negative under load, no response, or shows +Range / −Range.

Now test the old bar the same way

If the old bar fails and the new bar passes, you’ve found and fixed it — install it. If both behave the same, the trouble is probably not the bar — look at the cable, junction box, or indicator next, and call us before you swap anything.

Handle the bar right

  • Load the top (TOP / (T) up) — loading it upside down can read negative.

  • Rubber mallet or wooden handle only for the tap test — never strike the sensor can or where the cable exits with a metal hammer head.

  • Don’t exceed the bar’s rated capacity, and never lift or pull the bar by its cable.
