Once you’ve isolated a suspect weigh bar, a volt/ohm meter tells you whether the bar itself is good. Set your meter to the appropriate ohms scale and check the values between the color-coded wires on the bar’s cord. Readings must be within your meter’s tolerance — if any value is off and the cable checks out, the bar must be replaced.

Four-Pin Connector (older systems)

Pin map: A = wire braid, B = red, C = black, D = white. Orient the key slot at 12 o’clock.

  • Black & White (C–D): 240 Ω

  • Black & Red (C–B): 240 Ω

  • White & Red (B–D): 480 Ω

  • Braided shield & all 3 wires: Infinite

  • Weigh bar body & all 3 wires: Infinite

Five-Pin Connector (current systems)

Pin map: A = red, B = green, C = white, D = black, E = shield. Orient the notch at 12 o’clock. The A–C, B–D, and shield-to-all readings are the most crucial.

  • Red & White (A–C) — crucial: 350 Ω

  • Green & Black (B–D) — crucial: 350 Ω

  • Shield & all wires (E) — crucial: Infinite

  • Red & Green (A–B): 262 Ω

  • Green & White (B–C): 262 Ω

  • White & Black (C–D): 262 Ω

  • Red & Black (A–D): 262 Ω
